Teacher's To Do List for Friday

What a Teacher Needs to Accomplish Before the Weekend

Dec 31, 2008 Jennifer Wagaman

Getting everything done before the weekend will help a teacher be able to enjoy two days off without bringing work home.

Teachers are tired after a long week of teaching and ready to get home to their families on Friday. Starting the weekend as early as possible is important, and with a little bit of planning and organization, the classroom, lesson plans and grading can all be taken care of during the week leaving rest and relaxation for the weekend.

Preparing Lesson Plans for the Next Week

When you leave the classroom on Friday, your lesson plans for the next week should all be completed. Take stock of your lesson plans early on Friday so that you know what you need to accomplish before leaving school that day. If it means spending a few extra minutes at school Friday afternoon to finish those lessons, do so in order to be able to take no work home with you.

Grading ahead as much as possible is one of the best gifts a teacher can give herself on the weekend. Being able to know that the next week’s plans are taken care of, will allow you to actually relax and enjoy two days away from school.

Grading Assignments Each Week

Any papers that students turn in to be graded on Friday should be saved and graded on Monday. Spend your morning preparation time grading papers and assignments during the week, and attempt to go over as many assignments in class as possible. Having students grade their own work cuts down on the time it takes you to grade, and will ultimately help you get out of school faster on Friday.

Organizing the Classroom on Friday

Spend extra time as a class organizing and straightening the room on Friday afternoon before dismissal. Having students help you prepare for the next week and clean up from the week’s activities will not only help you get out of school sooner, but it will teach your students how to organize and clean up after themselves. Ask your students for ideas on how to better organize the classroom and let them try their own suggestions to see if they help things go smoother.

Although there are many things that need to happen on Friday, with a little bit of work during the week, and a bit of organization in the classroom, you should be able to complete each task quickly. The sooner you can leave on Friday the better, and the best amount of work to take home for the weekend is none.
