Valentine Bulletin Board DisplaysIdeas for Celebrating Valentine's Day in the Classroom
Create an age appropriate Valentine's Day bulletin board to display student work and teach about friendship and encouragement.
With a little creativity and effort, you can turn one of your classroom bulletin boards into a Valentine's Day display. This can be done for little to no money if you use the supplies available to you at school including construction paper, and other decorations that your students may make. Focus your bulletin board display for the age group that you teach. Valentine's Day Display for Primary GradesPaper the background of your Valentine's Day bulletin board with pink paper, if you have some available. Otherwise, to keep the idea simple and as cheap as possible, use plain white paper. Take a couple of different colors of construction paper and cut out various sized paper hearts. Overlap the hearts for a more creative look. Have each student take one larger sized cut out heart and with the teacher's help, answer one of the following questions:
Valentine's Day Display for Upper Elementary GradesPaper the upper elementary Valentine's Day bulletin board with either pink or white paper. Either purchase a hearts boarder or cut out construction paper hearts to place around the border. Make the display colorful, but do not go over the top with pink and frilly hearts. You can also add either flower pictures or have students make tissue paper flowers to add to the board. To add student work to the display, consider having students write an essay to one of the following prompts:
Add science to your bulletin board display by having your students study the parts of the heart or the parts of the flower. If you wish to not use the bulletin board for examples of student writing, you can teach students about how a heart works, or about the parts of a flower and display pictures of whichever you choose to teach on. If these lessons are included in your curriculum at a different time, consider skipping ahead to cover them now. Valentine's Day Display IdeasAn idea that would work for every age group including middle and high school, is an encouragement display. If possible, create this display in the hallway outside your classroom, but if that is not possible, set aside an area in the classroom for this positive display idea. Explain to the students that for the month of February or for the week of Valentine's Day, or for whatever period of time you choose that you will be displaying notes of encouragement. This can be short phrases or longer letters from teachers, parents and students thanking and encouraging one another. Set rules for this idea, so that there are no issues arising from any notes displayed. These rules should include, but are not limited to:
Make a creative Valentine's Day display in your classroom to display student learning and student work. Be sure to make your display age appropriate, and that all the work displayed is appropriate.
