New teachers starting out feel particularly lonely. Back in teacher college, they were used to three or four years (depending on the institution) of mental, intellectual, and emotional support. Now they are expected to be experts of classroom management and follow a rigorous curriculum trying to teacher a classroom full of students. How can a new teacher manage all on his/her own?
This isolation is typical of every new teacher who has yet to experience entering a new classroom. It is a rather scary experience to enter a classroom for the first time, but there are websites and forums that offer many forms of new teacher support.
As a new teacher, you don’t need to feel alone. There are ample resources on the web just waited to be read and shared. For every feeling and worrying thought you have about starting the school year, there are thousands perhaps even more who feel just like you. Reach out, ask for advice and get encouragement. Forums are great places for receiving expert advice.
Here are a few I have found. I hope they serve the new teacher in you. Feel free to leave a comment or ask a question.
