I'm in New York City for a week for a brief summer vacation and today, I passed many office supplies shops and about a dozen Barnes and Nobles on every block. I am reminded how I purchased new teacher supplies and books aimed for the new teacher. At the time, I thought it was a good way to solve any forthcoming discipline problems I would have with any of my classes.
But truthfully, it wasn't the way to go, at least not for me. I was afraid to find the answers within myself and come up with my own solutions. In this respect, I believe that buying
teacher materials and resources is a good idea but they should be regarded as supplementary materials.
A lot of learning and growth can happen in a classroom and the test of survival is something every new teacher goes through, even experienced ones.
It makes for a happier teacher and an even happier wallet, when you can try and find the answers within yourself as you will fall prey to slightly more difficult
classroom organization issues and classroom management situations.
