Many teachers I know are looking for at least part time work. Teaching online also seem to be a viable option for summer teaching jobs.
I recently applied as an online tutor for a Washington D.C. based company called Smartthinking. It doesn't pay much, just $11.00 an hour, but it would give me the online experience of a summer teaching job and beyond that I was looking for. I am really ready for online experience, and I want to bring my teaching up to the next level.
Out of my twelve summer vacations, I have spent at least half of them working in summer camps, teaching college courses, working as a private tutor, and as a tour guide in Israel for a group of American kids wanting to experience Israel. Last summer, I spent translating an abstract for a doctoral candidate from Hebrew to English. That was new and different.
But truthfully, there are also those teachers I know who really don't want the extra money; they want their summers off and rightfully so. They wait for that relaxing summer vacation that comes only after nine months of hard work preparing, checking and planning and without with the extra headache of "how am I going to live on my summer's teaching salary?"
It's a never ending story of constant financial woes. Despite the major efforts the Board of Education in the States and the Mnistry of Education in Israel do to lure competent teachers, other teachers wish they didn't have to work so hard especially during the summer vacation.
Nowadays online teaching jobs seem to lure me for its virtual teaching environment that is absent of the traditional discipline problems I have dealt with for the past twelve years. I had hoped to find an online teaching job to see if the pay and non-stress is really worth it.
Well, I guess it's back to the drawing board and yet another online search for some more online teaching jobs.
