Where are you in terms of classroom management? What has worked effectively for you beginning and more seasoned teachers? Any veteran teachers out there?

I really believe in going over the rules and procedures with the students. It should be done at least once a week. I know it helps to go over them on Monday since the students had two days off and sometimes when they come back things can get a little crazy. It always helps to remind them of the procedures and rules when taking a test every time they take one. Even when you do this, they do not always do what they are supposed to. You should always stick by your word. If you threaten to do something or take something away next time a student does something, then you should do it. If you don't, the next time you threaten them, they won't believe you and the technique doesn't work.

I also see the weekend as a way to 'remind' the students of the rules. Good thinking. Consistency here is the key. Students try to see where they can 'bend' the rule a little to see how we will react.

Over time it should be easier to teach and the balance between reinforcing and learning will be equal.

Do you teach weaker classes? Do you find there is a correlation between rule 'bending' and learning?
